Welcome to Grade 1 class. the children usually start at 5-6 years old. Lighthouse concentrates on strong cognitive plus creative abilities combined with excellent social skills and teamwork. Children now develop reading skills. More indepth science about simple machines, structures, materials and energy forms. They learning about nutrition, personal safety, and healthy relationships.

G1 Teachers

Our lead teachers have been with Lighthouse many years. They are very passionate about their jobs and loves her Grade 1 children.

Support Staff

Every Grade 1 class has a trained assistant teacher. They are there to help with activites and help individual students, they understand the curriculum and keep the class running smoothly and make sure each student gets good attention.

Physical Education Specialists

We have a teacher dedicated to PE (Physical Education). He energises the class with different games and challenges both outdoors and indoors. This is essential for gross motor skills, balance, fun and muscle development.

Specialist Art teachers

We have a specialist art teacher taught at Lighthouse for many years. She is very calm and always prepares great creations for every level of student.

Field Trips

We actively organise field trips during summer to places like the Phuket Aquarium. Its a great chance for the children to get outside of the school and open their minds to the many incredible places Phuket has to offer.

Education

Reading & Writing Development

Our Grade 1 children usually join the class at aged 5-6 years but we do have flexibility and it does depend on ability. We make a dynamic learning environment.

Language & literacy

Reading skills are developed with greater amount of vocabulary, and better comprehension skills. Students get to the level of writing simple sentences with punctuation. Listening skills, expressing ideas clearly, and Children actively participate in discussions to express their ideas clearly and practice listening.

Thai Language

Students continue to learn spoken and written Thai language although English is predominant at Lighthouse.

Mathematics

Grade 1 advance their number recognition using number charts, more advanced addition and subtraction with greater numbers. Grade 1 introduces simple algebra understanding missing numbers in equations. They collecting data and organise it for example drawing basic graphs.
Grade 1 gets to grips with measurement concepts, understanding local money and basic financial concepts​.

Science & Exploration

Grade 1 explores basic needs and characteristics of living things. For example they grow cress seeds into plants and study photosynthesis. They learn basic properties of materials and energy forms.
They learn about simple machines and structures. Further work on the weather, seasons, and natural environments​.

Social

Social & Emotional Development

Lighthouse has a strong emphasis on social skills and developing emotional intelligence. Children learn to interact respectfully with peers, resolve conflicts by themselves to a certain point, and develop empathy. Grade 1 students recognise and name different behaviours as they gain more self regulation to manage their emotions.

Sports

Our dedicated sports teacher sets fun challenges like obstacle courses. Activites involve running races, jumping, climbing, and participating in group games. We have an indoor and outdoor play area with artificial grass and a sand pit.

Healthy meals at our cafeteria

Part of school is understanding the importance of personal hygiene practices. Students learning about personal safety, including road safety and stranger awareness. They are taught the basics of healthy eating and nutrition. Lighthouse has full time chefs who cook fresh healthy food everyday for the children for breakfast lunch and snacktimes. Our food is proudly served without refined sugar or MSG.

Cloakrooms

Showers and toilets and a cloakroom to store the children’s bags.
